Our Take

We’ve been staying at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel for many years now and wouldn’t have it any other way! We love this hotel! From the moment you enter you feel like you’re home and the Cast Members here certainly make you feel that way too. Being this close to the action does come at a cost but one that is well worth it in our opinion.

In 2017 all the rooms at the hotel were remodeled into some beautifully-crafted rooms. Everything is new and the rooms now feature hardwood floors, tile throughout the bathrooms, beds with plenty of storage under them and massive TV’s and balconies.

One of the best things about Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel is the private entrance for hotel guests only. It used to be for all Disneyland Property Hotel guests but a recent change in security has now made the entrance exclusive to Grand Californian Hotel guests only. While this entrance is very convenient keep in mind that in the morning time before the park opens it gets a super long line. Sometimes it’s best to walk to the front entrance in this case.

One of the best kept secrets about the hotel is the viewing balcony at the back of the hotel on the top floor. It overlooks Pixar Pier and has some great views of World of Color at night. In fact they pipe the music into the balcony for your enjoyment! Plus the balcony features heaters and bathrooms. It’s a great place to view the show at night or taking some fantastic pictures.

Along with new rooms in 2017 came a newly resurfaced pool which now look incredible. It features 3 bigger sized pools, several large hot tubs and a kids pool. One of the pools has two waterslides including a bigger kids slide and a smaller kids slide. You’ll also find poolside dining and cabana rentals available.

Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel features 2 restaurants, 2 lounges and a quick service dining option. All of them are great for whatever you’re in the mood for. The Storytellers Cafe is the Character Breakfast option featuring Chip and Dale and other woodland friends.

For an evening drink stop over at Hearthstone Lounge where you can enjoy a cocktail of your choice and some good company. It’s also a great place for some coffee and danishes in the morning. During the daytime they have a cooler of ice cold water out for anyone to enjoy.

White Water Snacks located between the pool and the entrance into DCA park is your quick service dining option for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can also buy several products like cereal, milk, orange juice, bacon, bread, lunch meat and various condiments for homemade meals in the parks. DVC members and AP holders enjoy a 10% discount here as well.
