Your Guide to Mickey’s Halloween Party 2017

Your Guide to Mickey’s Halloween Party 2017

This is your 2017 guide to the Disneyland Resort’s Mickey’s Halloween Party. In it you’ll find all the available dates to attend, activities available to guests attending a party, where to start your trick or treating, costume guide, and how to meet all your favorite villains! Get ready for some serious candy too!

For those who have never attended a Mickey’s Halloween Party here’s a brief description: Trick or Treating in Disneyland Park with amazing Halloween decorations, rare villain meet and greets, a special fireworks show, and, to repeat ourselves, pounds and pounds of candy per person.

Tickets and Dates

For 2017 there are several dates that you can attend a Mickey’s Halloween Party. Some are later and some are shorter. Some offer special discounts on tickets and some don’t. Typically the Oct. 31st Halloween Party is the busiest followed by any weekend parties (Friday night mostly). Prices are the same for all ages 3 and Up. Kids under 3 are free.

September Halloween Parties: 20th ($95) (Sold Out), 22nd ($105) (Sold Out), 25th ($95) (Sold Out), 27th ($95) (Sold Out), and 29th ($105) (Sold Out).

October Halloween Parties: 3rd ($105) (Sold Out), 6th (Sold Out), 10th ($105) (Sold Out), 13th (Sold Out), 17th ($105) (Sold Out), 20th ($120) (Sold Out), 24th ($105) (Sold Out), 27th (Sold Out), 31st ($120) (Sold Out).

You’ll see that several October dates are already sold out. They do this every year which is why it’s a good idea to buy your tickets as soon as possible! Before that though here are a few other things you need to know about tickets:

  • Tickets only get you into Disneyland Park during the hours of the Halloween Party. On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday night parties your Halloween Party tickets are valid from 6PM to 11PM. On Friday night parties they are valid from 7PM to 12AM.
  • Buying your tickets in advance vs. same day can save you money on some parties.
  • To enter the parks before the parties start you’ll need separate paid admission. Check-out Park Savers for discount Disneyland tickets to help you save on regular park admission.
  • Guests can enter the parks 3 hours before the start of the Halloween Party. So if the party starts at 6PM you can actually enter the park at 3PM. Just be aware that you’ll need to get a wristband as you enter the parks with your Halloween ticket. This is what allows you to trick or treat and stay in the park during the party.
  • ….which means that if you don’t have a wristband at the start of the party, you’ll have to leave the park. California Adventure Park is always open later for guests who are not attending a Halloween Party.
  • Lastly, Sold Out events are only sold out online. Disney always reserves a certain amount of tickets for same day sales to Halloween Parties. These can be purchased same-day at a box office. Get there early! If you’re staying at one of the 3 Disneyland Resort property hotels, they also have same day tickets available for hotel guests. Stop by the lobby desk for purchase of tickets.

Changes to 2017 Halloween Parties

The biggest change to this year’s parties is that the 3 hours leading up to the Halloween party (when your Halloween ticket is valid for entry) now gives you access to both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park (DCA)! Each will offer unique Halloween-themed activities leading up to the actual Halloween Party at Disneyland Park.

What this means is that you can enter both Disneyland Park and DCA Park 3 hours before the start of your Halloween Party. Then, when the actual Halloween party starts, you’ll need to go over to Disneyland Park to trick or treat, see the fireworks show, etc.

This is the first year DCA Park has taken part in the Halloween Parties and we’re excited to see how it turns out!

Activities

The following activities are available for Mickey’s Halloween Party guests:

  • Ride of the Headless Horseman: Feel the fear mount as this chilling figure rides out of the night, advancing with grim purpose down Main Street, U.S.A.
  • Frightfully Fun Parade: Behold a creepy cavalcade starring Jack Skellington and a grim, grinning gaggle of Disney’s most beloved characters, chilliest villains and coolest ghouls!

The attractions including Haunted Mansion Holiday and Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy are available to all guests attending the parks. The rest of the listed activities are for Mickey’s Halloween Party guests only.

Trick or Treating

The part we’ve all been waiting for. Earlier we said “pounds and pounds of candy.” We weren’t lying. BYOB rules apply if you want to load-up on candy. That’s Bring Your Own Bag. Disney does give you a small bag to fill up as you enter the park but most people bring their own bags and pillow cases as you can make as many rounds as you want for candy. It’s unlimited!

Typically the set-up for candy stations includes several big crates full of candy and Cast Members giving out gracious handfuls of candy. Upon entering the park for your Halloween Party you’ll be given a map that shows all the locations of the candy stations. Most people start at the front of the park so try heading to the back and working your way to the front. We’ve always had success with this strategy.

You can visit a candy station as many times as you want…so grab some candy and get back in line! It never ends!

The best time to trick or treat is during the parade and the fireworks show. Most people aren’t in the candy lines anymore so expect a short line. You’ll have enough candy to last you months and then some!

Costumes

This is your chance to dress up as your favorite Disney characters and enter the parks! Typically Disney doesn’t allow guests over a certain age to dress up in the parks but these parties are the exception.

There are a few rules Disney wants you to follow however:

  • All Guests may dress as their favorite character, but may not pose for pictures or sign autographs for other Guests.
  • Costumes must be family-friendly and may not be obstructive, offensive, objectionable or violent.
  • Costumes may not contain any weapons that resemble or could easily be mistaken for an actual weapon.
  • Costumes may not contain sharp objects, pointed objects or materials that may accidentally strike another Guest.
  • Layered costumes or costume props that surround the entire body are strongly discouraged and may be subject to additional security screening.
  • Costumes may not reach or drag on the ground (e.g., full-length Princess dresses)

For Guests Ages 13 and Under

Costumes and some masks may be worn, as long the mask does not cover the entire face and eyes are visible.

For Guests Ages 14 and Older

  • Capes may be worn if the length does not go below the waist.
  • Themed T-shirts, blouses, sweatshirts and hats are acceptable.
  • Acceptable accessories include: transparent wings, plastic light sabers, toy swords and tutus.
  • Headwear may be worn as long as it does not cover the face.
  • Masks of any kind may not be worn, except for medical purposes.
  • Guests who do not adhere to these guidelines may be refused entry into, and/or removed from, the event, unless his or her costume can be modified to meet the above standards.

As long as you adhere to these guidelines you’ll be just fine! Get creative and have fun!

Meeting the Villains

This is your chance to see some rare Disney villains! They come out once a year for Halloween and give you the opportunity to meet them…if you dare! Characters in the past have included Hades, Cruella Deville, Grimhilde, Maleficent, and Jafar. Who knows who will be there this year! Get their autographs and a picture with them in Town Square in front of the Train Station.

In summary:

  • Buy your tickets in advance! If it’s sold out they do have same day ticket sales in limited quantities. Regular park admission is required to enter the parks before the parties. Check-out Park Savers for discount Disneyland tickets.
  • You can arrive and enter the parks 3 hours before the start of your Halloween Party including entrance into DCA Park.
  • There’s a lot of candy to be had. Bring your own bags if you want to go beyond what Disney gives you. You can visit candy stations as many times as you want.
  • You can dress up in a costume, just be sure to follow Disney’s guidelines.
  • There are tons of fun activities happening during the party. Be sure to stop and see them including meeting some rare villains!

Happy Halloween everyone!
